In the third quarter of 2024, the landscape of social networking apps in Australia on the iOS platform revealed notable trends in downloads, revenue, and active users. The data, sourced from Sensor Tower, showcases the performance of the top five apps in this category.

Threads, published by Instagram, Inc., saw a steady climb in downloads, starting at around 44K at the beginning of July and eventually peaking at about 77K by the end of September. Active users showed a similar upward trend, beginning the quarter with approximately 1.2M and reaching nearly 1.4M by the quarter's end.

WhatsApp Messenger experienced consistent download numbers throughout the quarter, with weekly figures generally hovering around 24K to 30K. The weekly active users remained robust, starting at approximately 3.3M and maintaining this level with slight fluctuations, closing the quarter at around 3.4M.

For Facebook, revenue showed a gradual increase, starting at about $31K and reaching a peak of around $44K by the end of September.
